The Real Christmas Spirit

THE REAL CHRISTMAS SPIRIT

Here we are,
You can already hear “The Jingle Bells”,
Santa is getting wasted in a bar,
Mommy is taking advantage of Black Friday sales.

That’s right,
Santa Claus is in exile,
Parents pouring into malls,
Just to see their offspring smile.

One thing that unites all customers,
During this time,
Is the fact that for a common purpose,
They are waiting in line.

Some of us ask,
“where did our values go?
Are we so caught up with monetary tasks
That Walmart has captured our souls?”

Well I’m here to tell you,
Although all hope may seem lost,
The days of tradition are apparently through
But our values have yet to be tossed.

Sure, credit is flowing,
Money is wasted,
But on December 25,
Family recipes keep getting tasted.

So,
I salute you and wish you a merry Christmas,
No matter where you stand:
Whether it is in line at Toys R’ Us,
Or spending quality time with the family and friends you have at hand.

Saa... your poem is so sad, but so true.

A lot of people focus on the "bad" of X-mas, what with all that materialism... but I found it beautiful that you pointed out that Christmas can still be beautiful, nonetheless.

    Very thoughtful, very lovely. (But Adriana's is better.... <_< .... >_> ....)
