Para toda persona que aparentemente no tienen conciencia, ahora tienen una externa que le habla cada 5 minutos en la radio o en la televisión o en las bolsas de supermercado, como si el que te digan “que nos pasa, Puerto Rico?” te va a hacer pensar dos veces antes de tirar una botella de agua por la ventana o hacerle un corte de pastelillo a una señora mayor.
Una vez hubo un gran líder, se volvió en el mayor representante de un ideal, lo asesina un francotirador por razones que ni siquiera él sabe; y ahora se ha vuelto en una justificación para vandalizar propiedad pública por gente que algunos ni siquiera les importa el ideal que predican. Le pedimos una explicación a la agencia responsable por la muerte de este hombre, y entonces no nos gusta la explicación y pedimos otra.
Mi novela favorita durante estos últimos días ha sido “dos ideales, un partido” en la que tenemos por un lado un líder que no quiere aceptar su derrota y todavía está tirando puños después de que se acaba la pelea, y por otro lado otro líder que sigilosamente ya tiene su campaña hecha para el 2008, y el pobre partido que Dios sabe cuanto tiempo pasa antes de que se rompa o haga como la víctima de la novela y se quite la vida al final.
Tenemos una vez más el caso del status de Puerto Rico, una atracción refrita del circo al que le decimos gobierno, utilizada cuando ya no queda otro espectáculo para entretener al pueblo puertorriqueño de los problemas verdaderos, como los cráteres en la carretera o la mala planificación. Hablamos de proyectos y “antesalas a la descolonización” cuando todavía parece que no nos podemos cuidar por nosotros mismos (solo hay que preguntarle a la corte suprema de Boston). Hacemos votaciones para ver si el Senado se mantiene o se quitan sillas, y como el resultado no le gustó a la mayoría del Senado, sacan excusas y peros, y ya cuando los noticieros notan que esta historia no da “ratings”, la cambian y la voz del pueblo queda en el zafacón, todo por que “no hubo quórum”. Hay una autoridad de acueductos que sube el precio para poder pagarle el seguro medico a sus empleados, y una autoridad de energía que ahora se entera que está cobrando de más. Cuando no tenemos un hombre trepado en una estaca tratando de quitar o poner un pedazo de tela (porque al fin y al cabo eso es lo que es una bandera, un pedazo de tela), sale al aire el video de un senador comportándose inmoralmente con una asistente, prácticamente fuera de su lugar de trabajo y fuera de horas de trabajo.
